PTHS Announces New National Honor Society Members
On Tuesday, April 8, 111 students were inducted into the Peters Township High School National Honor Society. The students were honored in a ceremony with parents in attendance for not only their academic excellence, but for meeting the Honor Society’s standards for leadership, service and character.  
Do you want to be the Class of 2014 Commencement Speaker?
Any senior with a GPA of 3.00 or higher and no disciplinary actions resulting in either in-school or out-of-school suspensions may submit a speech for consideration. Speeches must be submitted to the High School Office by the end of school on Wednesday, April 23, 2014. Please see the attached flyer for complete details including deadlines and other requirements. 
Band Front Tryouts
The PTHS Mighty Indian Marching Band will hold band front tryouts on Saturday, May 3rd from 8am to 4pm at the middle school gym. All 8th grade girls wishing to be part of the drill team or silk line must be present at the tryouts. For more details please contact Mr. Barney at barneym@pt-sd.org. 
National History Day Winners
Peters Township’s youngest history enthusiasts made their presence known at the regional competition of the National History Day contest, known as NHD-Pittsburgh. Seventeen students from Peters Township Middle and High Schools competed among more than 400 students across the region. Entries this year focused on the theme of “Rights and Responsibilities in History.”  
Real Talk: Information for 10th Grade Parents
As part of the high school health education curriculum, we will be presenting a program which addresses the issues surrounding teenage sexuality. These Real Talk classes will be presented to your son/daughter through the 10th grade Physical Education classes (3 lessons/days).  
Kennywood Ticket Sale Date
The Peters Township School District Kennywood Picnic day is Tuesday, June 17, 2014. Discounted tickets will be on sale in District school buildings on Tuesday, April 22. This year, tickets are $25 each and may be purchased by cash or money order only. Click more info for specific times to purchase tickets in each building.

This spring PTSD will be celebrating the arts all across the District. Visit our Imagination Celebration webpage to learn more about the Celebration, a complete list of event dates and samples of our students at work! 
UPDATED! New Phone System for PT Schools
On March 28, Bower Hill Elementary was added to the list of District buildings included in the new phone system. The new phone system in now in place in the Bower Hill, the Middle School, High School, Administration Building, Bus Garage and Pleasant Valley Elementary. This system will provide improved reliability and includes added features for staff members. Over the next few months, you will be alerted as additional schools are brought online to the new system. Grad Project Update for Juniors and Sophomores
As you may know, the State Board of Education recently amended Chapter 4 regulations for academic standards and assessment. One of the most notable changes was the elimination of the graduation project requirement for the Class of 2017 and beyond. Another notable change was the expanded use of the Keystone Exams.Due to these changes we have reviewed our current graduation project requirements for the classes of 2015 and 2016.
