The Peters Township School District developed a formal English as a Second Language (ESL) and Limited English Proficiency (LEP) policy in September 2002. Provisions for ESL / LEP are also made in the District's Strategic Plan.
Quality Educational Services
The goal of the District's ESL / LEP program is in accordance with the Board of School Director's philosophy to provide quality educational services to all students. To accomplish this goal, the district's objectives are to provide appropriately planned instructional services for identified students whose dominant language is not English. To assist these students in attaining academic success, the ESL / LEP services assist students in increasing their English language proficiency.
English Proficiency
The ESL teacher works closely with the Administrative staff and classroom teachers to assist ESL / LEP students in increasing their English proficiency. All students are integrated with their peers except when it is necessary to pull them out of class to provide specific services. All English Language Learner students are welcomed and encouraged to be involved in extra-curricular and other related programs.
