The National Merit Scholarship Program annually recognizes students nationwide based on their perfomance on the PSAT/NMSQT exam. The semifinalists represent less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest-scoring students in each state.
In 2022, Seniors Aidan Green, Zachary Griffith and Jacob McConaughy were named semifinalists and were given the opportunity to compete for National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $30 million. Merit Scholar designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
In addition, 11 students from PTHS were named Commended Students in the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These students are: Yunjoe Chang, Kathryn Ghobrial, Raegan Herdman, Alexandra Kartsonas, Jacob Langlois, Allan Liu, Lauren Miller, Ryan Myers, Vienna Nolan, Griffin Stroud and Grace Trax. These students received a Letter of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise.
