2022 PSSA Rankings

PSSA Rankings; PT is 2nd in PA

The Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) is given to students in grades 3-8 annually in the Peters Township School District and throughout the state of Pennsylvania. Assessments in Math and English/Language Arts (ELA) are given to all six grade levels, with grades 4 and 8 taking an additional Science assessment. With all grades and subjects combined, Peters Township RANKED 3rd in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the number of students scoring Advanced or Proficient on the exams. All PT tested grades and subjects are ranked within the top 3% in the state. These rankings are among the 783 districts in Pennsylvania. Below are other notable rankings for specific grade levels:

U.S. News and World Report Honors

US News Rankings by Grade

In 2022, U.S. News  and World Report ranked Bower Hill Elementary 2nd in Pennsylvania, with Pleasant Valley Elementary ranking 3rd. 

Additionally, Peters Township Middle School came in 13th in the state-wide rankings.

In their regional rankings for area high schools, U.S. News named Peters Township High School the best high school in the region. 



Pittsburgh Business Times Rankings

In their 2022 Annual Guide to Schools, the Pittsburgh Business Times has ranked Peters Township 5th in our region and 10th overall across the state. 

The regional ranking includes the seven counties in Southwestern PA and the statewide ranking includes the nearly 500 districts across Pennsylvania.  



National Merit Honors

National Merit Honors
The National Merit Scholarship Program annually recognizes students nationwide based on their perfomance on the PSAT/NMSQT exam. The semifinalists represent less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest-scoring students in each state.
 
In 2022, Seniors Aidan Green, Zachary Griffith and Jacob McConaughy were named semifinalists and were given the opportunity to compete for National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $30 million. Merit Scholar designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

In addition, 11 students from PTHS were named Commended Students in the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These students are: Yunjoe Chang, Kathryn Ghobrial, Raegan Herdman, Alexandra Kartsonas, Jacob Langlois, Allan Liu, Lauren Miller, Ryan Myers, Vienna Nolan, Griffin Stroud and Grace Trax. These students received a Letter of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise.   


Additional District Academic Highlights

  • Pleasant Valley Elementary School (2011) and Peters Township Middle School (2013) have been recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education.

  • Peters Township High School, has earned the College Board's AP® Computer Science Female Diversity Award for expanding young women’s access to AP Computer Science Principles. The award acknowledges 1,105 schools for their work toward equal gender representation during the 2021-22 school year.

  • The Peters Township High School Class of 2022 (366 graduates) received more than $5 million in scholarships.

  • In 2022, 231 students earned AP Scholar Awards for their performance on Advanced Placement Exams. Additionally, 89 students earned the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. Class of 2022 senior Jackson Busche earned a perfect score on the AP Computer Science A Exam in May 2021. Jackson was one of only 356 students in the world to earn this honor.

  • In 2022, senior Raegan Herdman and junior Sydney Shock earned the highest possible composite score on the ACT Exam. Less than one-half of 1% of all test takers earn this top score. In the U.S. high school graduating class of 2021, only 4,055 out of 1.29 million students who took the ACT earned a top composite score of 36.
