2022 PSSA Rankings

PSSA Rankings; PT is 2nd in PA

The Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) is given to students in grades 3-8 annually in the Peters Township School District and throughout the state of Pennsylvania. Assessments in Math and English/Language Arts (ELA) are given to all six grade levels, with grades 4 and 8 taking an additional Science assessment. With all grades and subjects combined, Peters Township RANKED 3rd in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the number of students scoring Advanced or Proficient on the exams. All PT tested grades and subjects are ranked within the top 3% in the state. These rankings are among the 783 districts in Pennsylvania. Below are other notable rankings for specific grade levels:

U.S. News and World Report Honors

US News Rankings

In their 2023 regional rankings for area high schools, U.S. News named Peters Township High School the best high school in the region. Schools are ranked based on their performance on state-required tests, graduation rates and how well they prepare students for college. PTHS is also ranked 7th in Pennsylvania and 312th in the Nation according to the report. PTHS first earned this recognition in April of 2022.

In November 2023, U.S. News released their Best Pennsylvania Elementary Schools and Bower Hill Elementary has ranked #1 in Pennsylvania. Schools were assessed based on the number of students who scored proficient or advanced on PSSA exams from the 2020-21 School Year. Half of their proprietary ranking formula was the results themselves; the other half was the results in the context of socioeconomic demographics. 






Pittsburgh Business Times Rankings

In their 2023 Annual Guide to Schools, the Pittsburgh Business Times has ranked Peters Township 3rd in our region and 6th overall across the state. 

The regional ranking includes the seven counties in Southwestern PA and the statewide ranking includes the nearly 500 districts across Pennsylvania.  






National Merit Honors

National Merit Honors
The National Merit Scholarship Program annually recognizes students nationwide based on their performance on the PSAT/NMSQT exam. In 2023, all five of our National Merit Semi-Finalists have advanced to Finalist status in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Seniors Damien Busche, Zachary Byers, Cassidy Griffith, Sydney Shock, and Margaret Stech are among an elite group of students from across the nation being considered for these scholarships. These students have been selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. 

In addition, 13 students from PTHS were named Commended Students in the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These students are: George Abbato, Tyler Aloise, Zennik Bublak, Logan Desaw, Faith Fackrell, Calvin Falls, Connor Heinsen, Faith Lepisto, Ashley Logan, Avyakta Sharma, Kyle Thomas, Justin Tornatore and Ethan White. These students received a Letter of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise.   


Additional District Academic Highlights

  • Pleasant Valley Elementary School (2011) and Peters Township Middle School (2013) have been recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education.

  • Peters Township High School, has earned the College Board's AP® Computer Science Female Diversity Award for expanding young women’s access to AP Computer Science Principles. The award acknowledges 1,105 schools for their work toward equal gender representation during the 2021-22 school year.

  • The Peters Township High School Class of 2022 (366 graduates) received more than $5 million in scholarships.

  • Peters Township High School has been recognized by The College Board with an AP School Honor Roll Gold Award. The Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Among the criteria for the Honor Roll are: 40% or more of the graduating cohort took at least 1 AP Exam during high school, 25% or more of the graduating cohort scored a 3 or higher on at least 1 AP Exam during high school and 2% or more of the graduating cohort took 5 or more AP Exams during high school.

  • In 2022, senior Raegan Herdman and junior Sydney Shock earned the highest possible composite score on the ACT Exam. Less than one-half of 1% of all test takers earn this top score. In the U.S. high school graduating class of 2021, only 4,055 out of 1.29 million students who took the ACT earned a top composite score of 36.
