Home School Information

Pennsylvania's Act 169

In accordance with Pennsylvania's Act 169, Peters Township School District permits home education defined as education by a parent, guardian or legal custodian. Act 169 creates a home education category designed to permit parents, guardians and legal custodians to conduct a home education program for their children. The parent or guardian, called a supervisor, must hold a high school diploma or its equivalent and has broad responsibility for the education of the children.

Home Schooling Guidelines

The School District has designated guidelines for those parents/guardians who wish to pursue a home education for their children. Currently, School District Policy No. 137 and 137 AR-1 provide administrative guidelines for home schooled students. Policy 137.1 and 137.1 AR-1 provide information for home schooled students on extracurricular participation.

Parents must sign an affidavit in order to complete home schooling. The form (pdf) can be downloaded and submitted to the District Administration Offices.  An outline of proposed educational objectives by subject area must also be submitted to the District Administration Offices.

Please note: Home Schooling is not the same as Homebound Instruction. For additional Homeboard information, visit that page of the website.
