American Math Exam
American Math Exam
The American Math Exam is scheduled for Thursday, November 5, 2026 and will begin promptly at 8:00 am. The exam will again be entirely online and instructions on for registration are below. Any PTHS student is eligible to take the exam, but current Algebra II students & above are targeted. The exam is 75 minutes, free, & entirely voluntary. Students who score highly enough become eligible to move onto the next level of the test; with the grand prize being a chance to participate as a member of the American team of the International Math Olympiad.
Participating students are responsible to make-up any missed work as a result of participation, but absence from periods 1-3 will be excused. Participating students must create an account in MAA's testing portal before test day (instructions below).

Student Eligibility
- AMC 10: Students must be in grade 10 or below and also under 17.5 years of age on the day of the competition.
- AMC 12: Students must be in grade 12 or below and also under 19.5 years of age on the day of the competition.
Permitted & Prohibited Testing Materials
Students are responsible for bringing their own materials with them on test day. During the competition, only the following materials are permitted:
- Writing Utensils
- Blank Scratch Paper
- Rulers
- Compasses
- Erasers
Prohibited materials include:
- Calculators
- Smartwatches
- Phones
- Computing Devices
- Protractors
- Graph Paper
