Class of 2020

PTHS Class of 2020

We began this year with a challenge to #BeTheOne - we urged our students to "be the one" who is kind, who makes a difference, who lifts others up. We did not know then that the Class of 2020 would "be the ones" who had this kind of unprecedented disruption in their senior year at PTHS.
The High School administration and staff is working diligently to recognize and honor our senior class under these new and evolving circumstances. This website will share some dates and resources for the students as plans are made for senior events.  Information will also be shared via District email blasts. All decisions will continue to be made with the safety of student, staff and community as our top priority.

In-Person Ceremony: June 20, 2020

Following our survey this week, we are pleased to announce that the live commencement for the Class of 2020 will take place on Saturday, June 20, 2020. The response from all of you was overwhelmingly in favor of having this event sooner for our seniors and we are gearing up to make it a very special event. I know we are all looking forward to watching them walk across the stage as graduates!
While we had all hoped to have our traditional ceremony as we move into the Green Phase, certain restriction continue and we are prohibited from hosting events in excess of 250 people. We understand that there were families who preferred the August date and that either date would unfortunately leave out some families with prior plans, we hope that having this event in just two weeks will serve to continue the celebration that starts with our Virtual Commencement on June 5 at 7 p.m.
Below are some important details about the live event:
  • Commencement will take place at 9:00 a.m. (last names A- Fe), 11 a.m. (last names Fi-L), 1 p.m. (last names M-Sh) and 3 p.m. (last names Si-Z)
  • Two tickets will be provided per family
  • There will be no ground level seating for spectators
  • Students and spectators must wear masks and maintain social distancing at all times
  • Practice for seniors will take place on Friday, June 19 (times and details to follow)
  • For students unable to participate in the June 20th event, a make-up date for a photo opportunity at the school will be announced
More details will be provided in the coming weeks including links for family members to view the live ceremony.

Dress Code for Commencement
Commencement is a formal ceremony; all participating seniors must follow all dress, appearance, behavioral and procedural rules and regulations.

GIRLS:  Required attire includes a white dress or slacks, a white blouse, and white dress shoes (spiked heels are not permitted on the turf).
BOYS:  Required dress includes black trousers, a white dress shirt, black socks, and black dress shoes.
Student conduct during the commencement ceremony will be respectful and dignified.  Each senior deserves to celebrate this accomplishment without disruption. Any behavior that causes or threatens to cause a disruption to the ceremony may lead to removal. Students are advised to wear sunscreen as the commencement is held outdoors weather permitting.

STUDENT ARRIVAL - Saturday, June 20
All students should arrive 45 minutes before their scheduled Commencement Ceremony. Students should report directly to the cafeteria to check in for their scheduled ceremony. Only students will be permitted into the school. Please note that all students and guests are required to wear masks at the event.
We encourage families to arrive on campus with their Graduate when possible and enter via the main entrance to campus. Families will park in the main lot directly in front of the school. Any student who drives separately from his or her family is asked to park in the student lot to the right of the main entrance. Limited handicap parking spots will also be available in the main parking lot.
Admittance for each ceremony will begin 30 minutes before the scheduled commencement time. All guests will enter the stadium through the ticket booths at the main entrance. All guests must exit the stadium through the Fieldbrook Street Exit (near the visitor concession stands).
As the ceremony draws closer, we will watch the weather closely. If it is necessary to move commencement indoors, parents will be notified via the District's automated calling system. In the event of an indoor ceremony ALL guests must enter via the main High School entrance. Guests will not be permitted to enter via the side doors. The gym doors will open approximately 30 minutes prior to each graduation ceremony. Tickets are required for entrance.

Photographs of Commencement

The District has given access to Tri-Color Photography to provide professional photographs of our graduates from the commencement ceremony. Photographers will be on-hand at all four ceremonies and proofs of the photos will be provided online via www.tri-colorphotography.com following the event for purchase.
Please note that parents will not be permitted on the field to take photos during the ceremony. Additional information with specific instructions for accessing the photos will follow after the event.
The District has granted access to this photographer as a service to our parents and is not involved in the photography, the ordering of photos, or the processing of the photos in any way. Parents wishing to purchase photos must work directly with Tri-Color Photography.
