Finances of the Project
Prior to moving forward on the new high school project, the Board of School Directors looked closely at their options. Estimates to renovate the current high school to meet the educational programming would be $77 million.  They also took the opportunity to examine all of the facilities in the District to be sure that they would be properly maintained over the next decade as well. Estimates for this maintenance were $24-34 million.

In April, 2017, the Board authorized a potential bond issue of up to $80 million. No money was borrowed at that time, but the vote allows the Board flexibility to borrow before interest rates rise again this year as predicted.

In April 2017, the Board also authorized Hayes Design Group to complete the necessary paperwork to file PlanCon A & B with the State. This process may make it possible for the District to receive $8-10 million in refunds from the State for a new High School project.

As Hayes begins the design process to narrow down the scope of a potential High School, the Board has directed the firm to keep the project in the $90 million range, with plans on how the school could be expanded in the future if necessary.

June 2017 Update: Proposed documents submitted to the Board after further design review estimated a high school facility that would cost $89.7 million with a natatorium included in the design.
