Remote Instruction

Planned Instruction for Peters Township Students

With the indefinite closure of schools across the state, Peters Township will transition from informal learning experiences to formal planned instruction on April 13, 2020. Given our commitment to providing high quality, thoughtful, and relevant educational experiences for our students, our teachers have been working diligently to transition the delivery of our existing robust curriculum to an on-line platform that is accessible to all students.  The District chose the labor-intensive work of retooling our existing curriculum for on-line delivery over a canned on-line program to ensure a learning experience most similar to the learning that occurs daily in our classrooms.

This website is designed to provide students and families with helpful information related to remote Planned Instruction in the areas of:
More links will be added as resources are finalized. Please use the navigation tabs on the left side of the page to navigate through these resources.

Virtual Lessons and Student Privacy

As we prepare to launch remote planned learning on Monday, April 13, we wanted to advise you that students may be offered real-time (synchronous) virtual sessions through platforms such as Google Hangouts/Meets and Zoom for OPTIONAL learning experiences. During live, real-time sessions, it is not possible to ensure student privacy. Student’s names and faces may appear on a shared screen. Further, the virtual group format could provide opportunities for individuals in other student’s households to observe sessions.

The District’s good faith effort to provide online, real-time sessions during this time is unique and a new way of learning for all of us. By allowing your child to participate in group virtual instruction, you agree and understand that your child may be viewed by others in the course of the delivery of services.

If you have any questions regarding your teacher’s preferred formats of instruction, please contact your child’s teacher directly through email.

Grading During Planned Instruction

In order to preserve the efforts and accomplishments of our students during the first three quarters of this school year, we will maintain our existing grading system for the final quarter of the year. Our students have worked hard during the first three quarters of the school year and we believe that final grades should be representative of those efforts.

Fully recognizing the challenges of remote instruction, our teachers will adjust expectations for performance and productivity when assigning grades in the final quarter. Maintaining our current grading system will allow teachers to communicate our students’ accomplishments in a system that is familiar to both students and parents. Our expectations for students during the fourth quarter is that they put forth their best efforts to engage in learning under the very challenging conditions that currently exist.

Students’ grades for the fourth quarter will reflect their good faith and best efforts to engage in learning and will be issued with consideration of their performance during the first three quarters of the school year. If you have any questions regarding your child’s assignments or performance during the last marking period, please reach out to your child’s teacher(s). Our teachers have office hours available and are looking forward to reconnecting with you and your child to successfully finish the remainder of the school year.

2019-2020 School Calendar

In an effort to avoid further disruption to the lives of our families, we made every effort to minimize changes to our existing school calendar. On Monday, March 30, 2020, our Board of School Directors approved a Revised Calendar that maintains our current Spring Break, extends the school year by one day to June 5, 2020, and meets current PDE requirements for days and hours of instruction. Click here to view the calendar.

We know that there are questions regarding the many special events that our students and families look forward to at the end of the school year. While we all hope for a return to normalcy soon, the District will make decisions related to these events in accordance with the guidelines outlined by the Governor and State health officials.

State Mandated Testing

As previously announced, PDE has waived all mandated state testing – including PSSA, PASA, and Keystone Exams. This was a welcome announcement as we can now use the previously scheduled testing days for instruction.
