Library Media Services

Pleasant Valley Library Media Center is open daily during the school year to students and staff. Students may visit the Media Center before homeroom and during the day to return and to check out library materials via our computerized library automation system.  Our Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) can be searched to locate library materials.

Pleasant Valley's Library Media Specialist

Mrs. Nancy Barley is Pleasant Valley's Library Media Specialist. Mrs. Barley has been a librarian for twenty years in grades K-12 and for the past ten years at PV. Mrs. Carol Hoffman is the Library Secretary.

Library Media Program
Students have regularly scheduled library/lab classes. The class meets for forty minutes and alternates weekly in the library and lab. A library media curriculum is followed which includes Library Behavior and Citizenship, Literature Motivation and Appreciation and Information Literacy.

In coordination with the classroom teacher, students work in small groups with Mrs. Barley for added enrichment to supplement the curriculum.
Accelerated Reader

The objective of the Accelerated Reader program is to improve students' vocabulary, reading, and comprehension skills through independent reading. The following are Accelerated Reader test lists as of 9/4/2012.

Special Programs
Birthday Book Program
Parents are invited to purchase a book in honor of their child's birthday. Students who participate in the program are recognized on PVTV and a bookplate is placed in the book that they choose. Click here for the Birthday book form.

Book Fair
A book fair is held twice a year - October and April.

Morning Masterpieces

Morning Masterpieces is a project that introduces K-3 students to distinguished works of composers, artists and authors. This daily project is designed to provide enrichment, awareness, and a deeper understanding and appreciation of music, art and literature.
Library Volunteers

Library volunteers are scheduled on a rotating basis during the school year. Pleasant Valley's PTA coordinates the library volunteers. Parents may sign up at the beginning of each school year.
