PSSA & Keystone Testing: Spring 2017
During the months of April and May, the Pennsylvania System
of School Assessment (PSSA) will be given to students in the Peters Township
School District and throughout the state of Pennsylvania. Students in grades 3-8 will take this
assessment.Students in grades 7 or 8
who are also enrolled in Algebra I or Biology may also take the Keystone Exams
in May.
The results of these assessments serve as a valuable tool to
you and the district in a number of ways. They inform you of your child’s level of proficiency in the areas of English
language arts, mathematics, and science. These results also assist your child’s teachers in designing lessons
that meet your child’s needs. Additionally, they provide on-going data that is used to develop
curriculum and design professional development for staff.
PSSA Schedules for your child's building were shared via email to all parents.
Your child cannot study for the assessments, but can prepare
by getting plenty of rest the night before the tests and eating a healthy
breakfast the morning of the tests.
Since this information is used to design your child’s future
instruction, the District requests that you stress to your child the importance
of doing his or her very best on the assessment.
Parents
have the right to excuse their child from the state assessment if, upon
inspection of testing materials, they find the assessment to be in conflict
with their religious beliefs. Two weeks
prior to each testing window, assessments will be available for review. Parents or guardians may schedule an
appointment to review if they wish. Please contact your child's building with questions or to set up an appointment.
