Bee a Reader in the BHLMC!
The Bower Hill Library Media Center or BHLMC is open daily to
all students and staff. It is a bustling hive of activity and is the
heart of the school. Students may check out books, magazines, and books on tape throughout the week as needed using our Alexandria system. Visit our card catalog from home!

the Language Arts Committee, Character Counts, Reading Advisory,
Environmental Committee, and serves as a member of the IST,

Appreciation for Literature
Students meet regularly with Mrs. Oleynik, our library media specialist, every other week for 40 minutes to develop an appreciation
for various literary genre, become familiar with noted authors and
illustrators, research various topics of interest, access the electronic
card catalog, educational software and the internet.
Accelerated Reader Program
The objective of the Accelerated
Reader program is to improve students' vocabulary, reading, and
comprehension skills through independent reading. For your convenience,
below are links to Accelerated Reader Book Lists:
These lists are long, so please be patient as you wait
for a file to open. Also be aware that if you choose to print, you will
print all pages. You may wish instead to save the list to a file and
print selected portions instead. Updated. March 18, 2009
Added Enrichment
Classroom teachers may also bring their students to the BHLMC on a flexible schedule to expand their classroom
units of study by co-teaching lessons with Mrs. Oleynik in the BHLMC or
computer lab. Students may also work in small groups with Mrs. Oleynik for added enrichment or remediation.
Library Volunteers
Library Volunteers are always welcome and
assist, Mrs. Marutz, the library secretary, in keeping the BHLMC running
smoothly. Mrs. Wendy Edgar and Mrs. Christin Mitchell are our valuable
Volunteer Coordinator.
Children's Birthdays
Parents are invited to purchase a book in honor of their child's birthday each month.
Stop in the BHLMC to browse through the pre-selected available titles
in our glass showcase. Our Birthday Book Surprise parties are held in
the BHLMC on the last Monday of each month.
