Volunteers

Volunteer Hands
Thank you for volunteering! Our partnership between the District and our families is a vital part of our school community in Peters Township.

The Child Protective Services Law requires background checks for volunteers in schools. Please note that clearances are processed by outside agencies and it will take time for them to be completed. Prospective volunteers are encouraged to complete the process as soon as possible and to begin at least one month prior to any event.

If you have any questions or concerns about volunteer clearances, please contact our Communications Coordinator.

Volunteer Process Overview and Timeline

All volunteers must submit the following documentation to be added to the Approved List of District Volunteers:
  1. Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151)
  2. Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (Act 34)
  3. Act 114 Criminal History Record (requires fingerprinting) OR the Waiver of the Act 114 Clearance if the volunteer has resided in Pennsylvania for ALL of the past ten years.
  4. Acknowledgement of Volunteer Obligations
Incomplete clearances will not be accepted and copies should not be sent to the school or to your child’s teacher. Upon submission of all four (4) documents, a copy of the original paperwork will be made for District files and originals will be returned to the volunteer.

With completed and verified paperwork, the volunteer’s name will be added to the Approved List of District Volunteers. A copy of the list including name and expiration date will be posted on the Volunteer page of the District website for convenience.

NEW FOR JANUARY 2023 - All volunteer paperwork must be complete and submitted within five (5) business days of the volunteer event or assignment. Any volunteer who has not met these requirements will forfeit his/her volunteer assignment and will not be permitted to volunteer until the requirements are met.

Clearances expire five (5) years from the date of the oldest clearance. If updated clearances have not been submitted prior to the expiration date, the volunteer’s name will be removed from the Approved List and the paperwork on file will be shredded.

Officials at the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) will review the results of the FBI fingerprint record check and will send the applicant a letter that indicates the result of the review and whether or not the applicant is eligible for a position that involves direct contact with children. The report will be on DHS letterhead and will be from the Office of Children, Youth and Families. The applicant will provide a copy of the letter to the District.
STEP 2:  Download and complete the Acknowledgement of Volunteer Obligation.
This document must be signed and dated. As stated on the form, you are required to notify the District, in writing within 72 hours if you are arrested for or convicted of an offense that would constitute grounds for denying participation as a volunteer, or you are named as a perpetrator in a child abuse report. Willful failure to do so has criminal implications and may jeopardize your ability to volunteer within the district. Get the Acknowledgement Form here: 916 AR-2 Acknowledgement.pdf
