In 2016, Peters Township School District began the process of examining the long range plan for our District facilities. The Board of School Directors completed a comprehensive High School Feasibility Study, as well as a District-wide Facilities Assessment. In addition, a long range demographics study was conducted to inform the process.

Among the many factors that have been considered in the process are:

  • Supporting current and future educational programming
  • Financial responsibility to our community
  • Current condition of all District buildings
  • Future estimates to ensure we could address the capital and educational needs of all facilities
  • Demographic trends for the next ten years in our community
Project Milestones
July 1, 2017: PlanCon documents filed with the State for potential reimbursement
July 11, 2017: School Board enters into an agreement with Hayes Design to design a new high school on the Rolling Hills property
August 7, 2017: Booster and PTA officers attend work session to offer feedback on the designs.
August 9, 2017: Peters Township Police, Fire and EMS begin discussions with the District to review design and provide input.
August 14, 2017: Buildings and Grounds Work Session - School Board reviews design and community feedback; examines site plan and traffic pattern options provided by Hayes Design
August 15, 2017: High School teacher facilitators review the plans and compare to staff survey results (that outlined staff member needs for new facility) and prepare for meeting with entire High School staff.
August 22, 2017: The entire High School staff met by department to review the plans and make important decisions on classroom square footage, storage and other space considerations.
August 31, 2017: Members of the High School student executive council had their first chance to review the schematic design and add their feedback. These students represent many different groups in our student body - class officers, ambassadors, thespians, National Honor Society, SADD, forensics, marching band and athletes.
September 11, 2017: School Board hires Reynolds Construction LLC as the construction manager for the high school project.
Finances of the Project
Prior to moving forward on the new high school project, the Board of School Directors looked closely at their options. Estimates to renovate the current high school to meet the educational programming would be $77 million.  They also took the opportunity to examine all of the facilities in the District to be sure that they would be properly maintained over the next decade as well. Estimates for this maintenance were $24-34 million.
In April, 2017, the Board authorized a potential bond issue of up to $80 million. No money was borrowed at that time, but the vote allows the Board flexibility to borrow before interest rates rise again this year as predicted.
In April 2017, the Board also authorized Hayes Design Group to complete the necessary paperwork to file PlanCon A & B with the State. This process may make it possible for the District to receive $8-10 million in refunds from the State for a new High School project.
As Hayes begins the design process to narrow down the scope of a potential High School, the Board has directed the firm to keep the project in the $90 million range, with plans on how the school could be expanded in the future if necessary.
June 2017 Update: Proposed documents submitted to the Board after further design review estimated a high school facility that would cost $89.7 million with a natatorium included in the design.
