Communicating Your Event Through the District
The Board of School Directors allows provisions for groups within our community to distribute student-related notices through the school. To use this service, please follow the steps below and review the District Policy.

All requests related to Township Sports should first be sent to the Recreation Department for approval. Requests will be submitted to the District by the Township Recreation Manager.

STEP ONE: Determine Your Group

Community groups fall into one of three groups according to District policy:

Group 1
School-sponsored student activities including official clubs and groups, as well as intramural and interscholastic sports teams of the district.

Group 2
School-related and Board-approved organizational support groups, including, but not limited to, parent-teacher organizations, booster clubs, alumni association, teachers' federation, etc.

Group 3
Any of the following groups located within the boundaries of the Peters Township School District: youth-related sports organizations, sports camps, or recreational groups (e.g., the Recreational Department); nonprofit educational groups (e.g., Public Library); or nonprofit community, civic and service groups that serve the Peters Township School District (e.g., Scouts, service clubs, civic groups, fire/police departments, etc.). Please see detail on the Community Bulletin format below.

STEP TWO: Add Appropriate Disclaimer

All notices for Group 2 organizations must display one of the following disclaimers:

For Cooperative Events -
THIS GROUP IS WORKING IN COOPERATION WITH THE PETERS TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT TO OFFER THIS EVENT OR PROGRAM.

For Independent Events -
THIS GROUP IS SHARING THE ATTACHED INFORMATION THROUGH THE PETERS TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT. THE EVENT OR PROGRAM IS NOT INITIATED OR SUPERVISED BY THE DISTRICT.

All notices for Group 3 organizations must display the following:
THIS EVENT, PROGRAM OR GROUP IS OPERATING INDEPENDENTLY OF THE PETERS TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT. DISTRIBUTION OF THIS INFORMATION DOES NOT INDICATE ENDORSEMENT BY THE DISTRICT.



STEP THREE: Approval

Once the disclaimer has been added to the notice, the flyer may be sent to the appropriate administrator for approval.

Notices from Group 1 and Group 2 require approval from the building principal if the notice only affects one school level (K-3, 4-6, 7-8, 9-12).

Notices that affect more than one school level and all notices from Group 3 require the approval of the Superintendent. Please send your request via email to the superintendent's office with the flyer attached.

See District Policy 913 for information regarding the guidelines for refusal and how information will be shared in the different buildings.



STEP FOUR: Distribution to Buildings/Communications Coordinator

Notices should be delivered to Bower Hill and McMurray Elementary in classroom sets of thirty (30). Pleasant Valley provides all notices electronically - a copy (pfd or word) should be emailed to Mrs. Julie Swiatek to be posted on the school's website.

The middle school and high school staff will not distribute materials directly to the students. Students will be notified through the daily announcements as to where they may pick up the materials in the schools.

For all district-wide notices, please forward the approved flyer to the Communications Coordinator with instructions on where you would like the information to be included (District email blasts, cable channel, twitter, etc.)

Group 3: Community Bulletin
All messages for Group 3 events will be sent to the community using our Community Bulletin Emails. When requested, Bulletins are typically send on Wednesday of each week when school is in session. Following approval by the Superintendent’s office, submissions for the Bulletin should be sent with the following guidelines:
  • Text of 150 words or less that will be included in the body of the Bulletin email must be submitted by 12 p.m. (NOON) on the Wednesday before publication on the following Monday.
  • A flyer in Word or PDF format may be attached to the bulletin that includes additional details.
  • Each request may be included in a Bulletin no more than twice, unless extenuating circumstances occur (change in date, etc.)
  • All submissions must be sent to Shelly Belcher at belchers@pt-sd.org
